How to Balance Exercise into your Daily Work Routine

Updated: Apr 8

Trying to find the time to fit exercise into your work day can be a struggle. However, it’s important to remember that a healthy work-life balance is key to keeping yourself happy, productive, and motivated. Here are some tips on how to balance work and exercise into your daily routine.

1. Time Management

First, make sure you’re scheduling enough time for exercise. It’s easy to get caught up in work and neglect your physical health. Make sure to block out a few hours a week for exercise and make sure you stick to that schedule.

We have a large custom-built fitness section at The Wilderness Fitness and Coworking, that extends into the coworking space. This allows for a visual reminder to get movement in daily. If you work from home, keep your exercise equipment in a convenient location so that you have to walk by it multiple times a day.

Our functional fitness equipment at The Wilderness is available at all times so whenever members want to get a workout in, all they have to do is walk 5 feet. We make the process of going to the gym convenient by removing all barriers.

We are also located right next to the Minneapolis chain of lakes and the Midtown Greenway walking and biking trail, so many of our members use this trail system to bike/walk to work or even just to take a short break outdoors during the work day.

If you like taking those much-needed breaks from work, we also offer a cozy little meditation room to decompress and quiet the mind.

2. Stay Active

Second, take advantage of small windows of opportunity to be active throughout the day. If you’re stuck at your desk all day, try to get up and move around every hour or so. Even something as simple as taking a few laps around your house or office, or doing some simple stretches at your desk can help you stay energized and focused for the rest of your work day.

If you don’t like sitting for too long, we’d recommend investing in a sit/stand desks (something we offer for members at The Wilderness) so that you can switch up your stance and practice good posture. Our members also love our treadmill desks because they allow for an easy way to get your steps in while also having a productive work day!

3. Community

Third, don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you’re struggling to find the time to fit in both work and exercise, consider finding someone to be an accountability partner. The odds are they could also use someone to make sure they are meeting their goals. The Wilderness holds daily 12 PM Recess classes where everyone is welcome to have a fun group stretch and workout, while making new friends!

All members also have the opportunity to sign up for our free weekly fitness and yoga classes. Not only will accountability help you stay on track with your fitness goals, but it will also give you the opportunity to meet new people and maybe even make new friends.

If you are looking for a more personalized training session, consider paying for a session with a personal trainer. Our founder, Ben, works with people one-on-one to help them develop an exercise program that fits into their lifestyle.

4. Become a Member

Finally, consider joining a fitness and coworking space like The Wilderness Fitness and Coworking in Minneapolis. This type of space allows you to exercise and work in the same place, which means you can save time and money by not having to drive back and forth between different spaces. Plus, you’ll be surrounded by other like-minded professionals who can help motivate you to stay on track.

Balancing work and exercise can be difficult, but it’s important to make the effort. By following the tips above and staying committed, you’ll be able to find the right balance for you.
